6 Regions we Work

Today, 64 per cent of the world’s population lives in Asia and by 2020 more than one third of the world will live in a city in Asia. Working with indigenous leaders and workers, Asian Outreach is dedicated to helping transform individuals and communities in these densely packed urban centres as well as in the remote rural areas. Asian Outreach has grouped the 18 countries we are operating or pioneering in into six regions – East, Central, South East, South, North and Greater Mekong.

East Asia – China, Hong Kong, Macau*, Japan, North* and South Korea* and Taiwan*

Despite East Asia’s growing middle class, the vast majority of people in this region still remain impoverished. In response to the lack of a government social safety net, Asian Outreach has responded by introducing effective and sustainable Health, Education and Community Development programs in this region. Additionally, Asian Outreach is meeting the need of investing in tomorrow’s leaders through our various leadership training programmes and the sponsorship of students to achieve higher levels of education.

Central Asia – Afghanistan*, Iran*, Kazakhstan*, Kyrgyzstan*, Tajikistan*, Turkmenistan* and Uzbekistan*

This is the newest Asian Outreach area of development. With the exception of Kazakhstan, the heavily populated countries in this region are economically troubled, rife with corruption and in dire need of community development. Asian Outreach is currently investigating which programs can best meet the needs of the peoples and how to most efficiently put them into effective practice.

South East Asia - Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei*, Malaysia, East Timor*

There are many people groups living in extreme poverty without any government or medical assistance in the South East Region. Asian Outreach has set up Health and Education programs such as kindergartens and medical clinics, and offers small business loans. As well, Asian Outreach has implemented Spiritual Development programs and Leadership Training,
supporting Church planters and Christian training centres in an effort to relate to marginalised and unreached people groups.

South Asia - Bangladesh, Bhutan*, India, Maldives*, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

This region has an extremely high poverty rate and little in the way of education and health programmes. Asian Outreach has instigated many projects including HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness programmes, schools and child educational sponsorship programmes, and a small business loan program. In hopes of reaching all peoples with Christ’s message, Asian Outreach provides Spiritual Development and Leadership Training programs, supporting Christian workers in front-line ministries and outreach to tribal groups.

North Asia - Mongolia

With 36 per cent of the population living below the poverty line, Mongolia is a third world country left in decay following the 1991 fall of Communism. Asian Outreach’s Education and Community Development programs provide literacy classes, small business loans and training for poor and needy families. On the spiritual side, prior to 1990 there were only five known Christians in Mongolia. That number has now dramatically increased to over 60,000. Asian Outreach has been closely involved in that change, training over 85 per cent of Mongolia’s Christian leaders through our Leadership Training
programs.

Greater Mekong - Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar

Systemic corruption, lack of health and educational programmes, and widespread poverty has much of the Greater Mekong region gripped in despair. Asian Outreach is helping to improve quality of life throughout the region with the implementation of Education, Health and Community Development programs. With widespread persecution of Christians throughout the area, locals are desperate for resources and help. Asian Outreach is meeting that urgent need through our Leadership Training programs, Literature translation and printing.

* Although there are no Asian Outreach offices or ministries in these countries, Asian Outreach is actively researching which
programs can most efficiently meet the short and long term needs of the people.
