You never know the difference a 2nd chance could make. Kids love to dream. Some want to be doctors, others teachers, some even aspire to be the next president. Some just want to be loved. Unfortunately, millions of children are born into hopeless circumstances in Asia each year, and may never have the opportunity to see their dreams realized. Together with Asian Outreach you can play an active role in giving a child in Asia a 2nd chance at life.

There are over 1.1 billion children under the age of 15 in Asia. Approximately 600 million of these children are living in severe deprivation, without even their most basic needs met. The aim of the 2nd Chance program is to give these marginalized children the ability to exercise their basic rights, and transform their future from being hopeless to one filled with promise.

Asian Outreach has been helping disadvantaged children for several decades. Working with local communities in six countries, we run life-changing projects, giving the most vulnerable a chance to belong to a loving family, obtain an education, learn how to practice good hygiene, and be provided with immunization and basic health care. Through these projects, tens of thousands of children have already been given new opportunities in life. Over the next three years we intend to help almost ten thousand more disadvantaged children. It does not take much to drastically change a child’s life for the better, and with your partnership we can help many more.

There are more children out of school in South Aisa then anywhere else on earth - 35 million

Of the 8.8 million children world-wide who died before turning 5 in 2008, 42% of these were in Asia. The majority of these deaths are due to just five diseases that are preventable and manageable with basic knowledge and low-cost treatment.

65 million children in Asia are orphans. The major causes include poverty, disease, famine and HIV/AIDS.

1. Breaking the poverty cycle for children who have no education

Breaking the poverty cycle for children who have no education:

40 million Asian children are not in school today. Many of these are sick or are required to work instead of go to school, because their families are too poor.

We provide schooling for disadvantaged children in some of the remotest parts of Asia, where there is no access to any other form of education. We also provide accelerated learning programs for children who have missed out normal schooling, so they can be integrated into the mainstream system.

Over 2700 children across Asia have already received the chance to have an education through our projects. By 2012 with your help a further 1600 children will have access to education and the ability to change their future.

2. Basic health care and hygiene education for impoverished children

Basic health care and hygiene education for impoverished children:

A lack of basic health care and
inappropriate treatment of preventable illnesses is a major issue in rural Asia, and directly contributes to sickness and death of millions of children each year.

We work within the local context to equip the next generation with basic skills and understanding that will help stop the spread of preventable diseases, such as typhoid, diarrhea, TB, water-borne illnesses and HIV/AIDS. We also provide immunization and medical support for children suffering from illness.

Over 3400 children have benefited from health and hygiene training, and have impacted their communities of tens of thousands. By 2012 we aim to provide health education for 7100 more children, with the same impact.

2. Basic health care and hygiene education for impoverished children

A home and loving environment for children who are on the streets:

There are many children in Asia that have been orphaned because of poverty and disease. They may be living on the streets and in the sewers and have no where else to turn to.

One of the most devastating issues in a young life is the lack of love and nurture, and this affects many children who are without anyone to care for their basic needs. We provide homes for orphans and street kids, and give them food and health care. Most importantly we make sure they are loved.

Over 550 children have already been provided essential care through Asian Outreach projects. By 2012 we aim to help over 100 children through providing health care, food, shelter, love and emotional support.
